Are you an introvert? Do you feel like being an introvert is a bad thing? It’s not. Here are seven reasons why!
Introverts get really rough press. It is widely known that the extroverts get all of the attention and are often perceived as being more successful. Being an introvert myself, I often struggle with this notion. Quiet confidence is something that I much prefer in a person and connect on a deeper level with introverts as a whole.
Today, I want to debunk this myth. And when I say myth, I mean it, too. Thinking that introverts can’t be successful is a belief that belongs well and truly in the past.
Don’t believe me?
Would you ever think that Steven Spielberg, Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates are introverts? I know I wouldn’t, thanks to Inc.com. Those three, highly successful people are just a few of the introverts in this world that have done very well for themselves.
Still, don’t believe me?
Here are 7 reasons why introverts are actually the best, and what they do differently:
Introverts are highly empathetic
As an introvert, you’re very much in tune with other people’s feelings. You feel deeply, and as a result, often take on other people’s emotions as your own.
But it also means that you can put yourselves into other people’s shoes with ease. This is a great skill to have if you work with customers on a regular basis. Being able to empathise with customers/people, in general, creates a better rapport and easy conversation.
This comes with its downsides, too. This is because you tend to worry about the world as a whole (I know I do), and those in it. You care a huge amount about the injustices in the world and want to make a difference.
It’s really important as an introvert to step back sometimes. Rome wasn’t built in a day.
Introverts respect your need for alone time
As an introvert you most likely value quiet/alone time. You aren’t energised from large groups of people live extroverts are. This doesn’t mean you don’t like people, it just means you enjoy reading a book, watching a film at home, or generally enjoying your own company, too.
As such, introverts as friends will always respect their friends’ need for alone time, too. You won’t push ideas on them and will take no for an answer. As an introvert yourself, you won’t always be up for going out or leaving the house and respect other people’s need for alone time.
Introverts make amazing friends
Introverts make THE BEST friends. You might not have that many friends, but the ones you do have are your nearest and dearest. You will do anything for your friend, and back them up at any time, no matter what the consequences are.
The only downside to this is that you may end up being taken advantage of for your good nature. There are people in this world who don’t appreciate introverts, or good people in general but don’t let this stop you caring so deeply.
Although it will hurt deeply when someone decides they don’t like you, you need to remember that you are beautiful inside and out. Those close to you will appreciate you and your good nature, so stick with those. You deserve to be respected and loved.
Introverts are fiercely loyal
This point ties in with the point above. Introverts are hugely loyal people and stick with those who they appreciate. As an introvert, you won’t have time for fake-ness or people who don’t have the same values as you. Life is too short to be spending time with people who you don’t agree with.
But when you do find people who you connect with, you’ll stand by them always. You won’t let anything/anyone upset your friends/family, which makes you an extremely loyal.
Introverts work hard
As an introvert with strong values, you work hard for people you respect. You’re probably a very honest person too. But, at the same time, you can hide your feelings well. As mentioned above, you value respect and respect those around you. This means that you work hard for what you believe in, in an honest and transparent way.
The problem with this is that you will find it difficult to work with someone who doesn’t hold the same values as you. You will also quickly lose interest in people who don’t work as hard as you do, either. The world should be a fair and equal place, so those who don’t work as hard as you will find themselves on their own.
Introverts provide an ear to rant to whenever needed
Whether it’s a shoulder to cry on or requesting feedback on a situation, an introvert will always be there for you. Introverts know how to judge a situation with ease. This means that they know what to tell you to make you feel better. If you’re looking to be told you look GREAT in that dress, your introvert friend will say so. Do you want to know the honest truth with something? Your introvert friend will give you the raw, damaging truth that you need.
But if all you need is an ear to bend, your introvert friend will ALWAYS be there. They don’t care that it might be one-sided sometimes. They would much rather help you out than deal with their own issues.
Introverts are people that you can always rely on.
Introverts prefer small or individual friendships/events
The final but not least point for today about introverts is that they MUCH prefer small groups of people than large ones. That doesn’t mean that they don’t like going dancing in a club, or feel happy in a pub, either. Introverts have deep personalities that you will only discover when you’re in small groups with them.
Introverts shine bright, like diamonds in the sky (to paraphrase Rhianna) when in small groups. They let their hair down when on a one-on-one basis and you should feel blessed to have introverts in your life. Once you know an introvert, you know them for life.
An introvert won’t ever let you down (unless their mental health is affected by it). An introvert should be respected at all times, and they will be successful.
If you are an introvert – how does this all make you feel? Does this ring true to you? I’m going to let you into a secret. This whole post is based on me being an introvert. Well done for making it this far down! But I truly believe that all of this applies to introverts as a whole. I feel lucky knowing introverts and so should you too.
