What Should I Know About Orthodontics?

Adult Orthodontist

Most people see an orthodontist to achieve a beautiful smile. If you are interested in having your own nice smile, braces may be the best solution for you. Braces are applied by an orthodontist and greatly improve the way a person looks and feels. Once the treatment has been completed, you will have your dream smile and be fitted with a confidence that you might have been seeking for a long time.

Understanding Orthodontic Treatment
Orthodontic appliances can be made of various materials including metal, plastic, and ceramic. The equipment can be removable or bonded to the teeth. Through the careful placement of the appliance, gentle, but consistent, force is applied in a controlled method. This results in the braces to allow the teeth to move in the way the orthodontist intends.

There was once a time in which metal brands were placed on every tooth. The bands were bulky and uncomfortable. Now, you can choose from clear or metal brackets, as well as the color of the appliance. The wires are much smaller and less noticeable. Best of all, a good San Clemente, CA adult orthodontist, such as one from John Redmond Orthodontics, will use the latest materials available to enable the teeth to move faster and with ease.

At John Redmond Orthodontics, we place braces, and orthodontic appliances, of people of all ages. You don’t have to be an adolescent to work on your smile. Rather you can be any age and still get that smile you’ve always wanted.

Duration of Treatment
The length of treatment you need will vary. Some people will wear braces for one year; others will wear them for two or three years. As one of the best orthodontists in San Clemente, CA, we tell our patients that one of the most important factors with treatment is the patient themselves! The more diligent you are about your orthodontic care, the better your treatment will be.

Before we begin your orthodontic treatment, we will discuss your options with you and help you to understand the length of time you will need to complete it. Please call John Redmond Orthodontics to schedule an appointment for your own treatment needs and to learn more about our orthodontist.

Types of Braces

As an orthodontist might explain to you, there are many different kinds of braces; these include:

Traditional Metal Braces
These are the most common types of braces, and have been developed in a way that is more comfortable than ever. Metal braces are made of premium stainless steel and straighten the teeth using small wires and brackets.

Clear Braces
Also known as ceramic braces, these are less visible on the teeth and usually preferred by older teens and adults. Clear braces require more oral hygiene and care which makes them more used on the upper teeth rather than the lower teeth.

Clear Aligners
These are removable, invisible trays that straighten the teeth. They are removable which means you can eat and drink what you want, and then brush and floss the teeth easily. They are comfortable and generally don’t cause mouth sores like their metal counterparts.
